Lesson 1 | Watercolor Lilies
Pre-k - 1st grade
Supplies:
blue and green watercolors (if you don’t have watercolor you can use watered down acrylic)
crayons
paper (watercolor paper is best but construction or card stock will work)
paint brush
Salt
Steps:
Using crayons draw and color some water lilies all over your paper. You can also add some grass to the edges if you want.
With the white crayon make swirls all around the lilies and where the water will be at in your artwork.
Now use the blue watercolors to paint all over your paper, this is the water. Watch as the white crayon mark now appear!
While the watercolor is still wet, sprinkle a little bit of salt over the watercolor.
Let dry!
Lesson 2 | Reflections
2nd - 5th grade
Supplies:
Paper
Pencil
Washable Markers
Paint Brush
Watercolor
Steps:
Fold your paper in half, hotdog style!
On one half of the paper draw a scene from nature. If weather permitting, go outside and get inspired the way Monet did.
Once you have drawn your picture, color it in using markers.
On the half that you have not drawn on, paint (plain) water on that half of the paper.
While it s still wet, fold and press the drawing side down onto the watered half.
Open it back up, now you can go in with blue watercolor and add it to the watered half of the paper.
Let dry.
Once its dry you may notice that some of the drawing got smeared, you can now go back in with your markers and go over those spots. Also, if you want to add a sky this is the time!
