Lesson 2  |  My Town Starry Night

3rd - 6th Grade

Supplies:

  • Black Paper

  • Pencil

  • Glue

  • Pastels (if you don't have pastels on hand you can switch it out for paint)

Steps:

  1. On the bottom third of your paper (make sure it is horizontal) draw out the skyline of your city, or a famous part of your city.

  2. With the glue, trace over your pencil drawing. Also make a few circles in the sky for the stars. Then make swirls all over the rest of the sky.

  3. Let the glue dry completely.

  4. Once dry, use the pastels to add color. make sure to use different shade of blue in the  sky and yellows, oranges, and whites for the stars. Since this is a night time scene uses darker and cool toned colors for the city part. Make sure when you are coloring in that you are following the glue lines and making small strokes to create that streaky look like Van Gogh.
