Lesson 1 | Sidewalk Sweets (OUTSIDE ACTIVITY)
All Ages
Supplies:
Cornstarch
Water
Food Coloring
Paintbrushes
Steps:
Making sidewalk chalk paint. Mix together 1 1/3 cup water with 1 cup cornstarch.
Divide the mixture into smaller bowls and then add the desired amount of food coloring.
Go outside and paint some sweet treats (candy, cupcakes, donuts, cakes, ice-cream, etc.)
Lesson 2 | Donuts
1st - 3rd Grade
Supplies:
Pencil
Paper (regular or construction paper)
Colored Pencils
Steps:
Draw several circles on your paper, you can use a stencil to make it easier.
Go back in and draw a smaller circle on the inside of each circle for the donut hole.
Now draw a small crescent shape on one side of the donut for the shadow, make sure the shadows are all on the same side of each donut.
Make another crescent shape on the inside of the small circle (donut hole) but on the opposite side.
Color each donut, make it colorful, and be creative!
Make sure each shadow is colored dark gray or black.
Lesson 3 | A Piece of Cake (or Pie)
4th - 6th Grade
Supplies:
Pencil
Paper (or canvas)
Paint
Paintbrush
Steps:
Decide if how many slices of cake or pie you want to have in your painting. Draw a triangle for each slice of cake. Making sure the longer side and point of the triangle is facing either left or right on the paper.
Draw a straight line down on the left and right side of the triangle(s) and then a line at the bottom connecting the two lines.
Go back and make then back line of the triangle more curved, like a piece of cake or pie.
Now and half circle shapes at the bottom for a plate.
Decide which side (left, right, or bottom) of the cakes or pies you want a shadow to be on, and draw a shadow for the plate and the cake/pie.
Time to paint! make it colorful and creative, add toppings to your cake slice(s) (cherries, sprinkles, ect.)
Make sure your shadows are dark.
